Athens Library’s Gadget Club explores the Inner Frontiers of Technology

Things have never been “gadgety” at the Spalding Memorial Library. Since their newest program offering debuted this fall, valley residents of all ages have gotten the chance to explore technology in a new hands-on way. From working with electronic breadboards to playing around with linux-based systems, the Gadget Club will have you building circuits and taking other things apart as you investigate the inner-workings of the electronics that fill our daily lives.

This dynamic weekly club has become a local forum for anyone who wants to converse or collaborate on their electronic projects. Past projects have included forays into animatronics, electronic music, and Scratch programming.

If you are interested in electronic up-cycling, scavenging, salvaging, repairing, repurposing or experimenting, this club is for you. The Gadget Club is meeting on Wednesday evenings from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Athens Library downstairs conference room. It is open to anyone aged ten and older, although eight or nine-year-olds with an exceptional aptitude for electronics may join if they are accompanied by an adult.

Regular club attendees will have the chance to help guide future explorations and projects. The Gadget Club will not meet during the week of Christmas on Dec. 23.

If you would like to know more about the Gadget Club, call the library at (570) 888-7117. You can also drop in to a Wednesday meeting at 724 South Main St. in Athens.
