Due to the quick release of the information on the Leaving the Scene Hit and Run accident that occurred in the Village of Owego at Front Street and Court Street on Sunday morning by the media, the driver has come forward on the incident. The investigation, however, is ongoing, according to police.

 

The Village of Owego Police Department is investigating a Leaving the Scene property damage Hit and Run accident, which occurred Sunday morning, Oct. 25 at about 1:20 a.m.

According to a police report received, the unknown operator of a 2015 Kia Optima 4-door, gray in color was observed operating the vehicle with no lights through the Village of Owego and crashing into two city utility light poles at the intersection of Front Street and the Court Street Bridge.

Police stated in the release that the suspect then fled the scene south across the Court Street Bridge scattering debris in the lanes of travel.

Video surveillance, witness and debris left at the scene, indicated the vehicle description and direction of travel. The vehicle will have extensive damage to the front driver’s corner, undercarriage, rear passenger corner and a shattered window, the police noted.

The unknown operator of the vehicle caused damage to public property in excess of several thousand dollars and cars passing through the area from road debris. Anyone with information in this case is urged to contact the Owego Police Department at 687-2117.
