‘Dancing United with the Starz’ is sold out

The Tioga United Way’s debut event, “Dancing United with the Starz”, has officially sold out.

The event is presented as a semi-formal evening of performances, fun and entertainment, modeled after the hit TV show “Dancing with the Stars” where eight local celebrities including Mike Bartlow, Laura Eberly, Jane Nichols, Moira Osorio, Barbara Patten, Brandon Smith, Reathea Woodburn, and Dave Woodburn will partner with instructors at this fundraiser for the Tioga United Way on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the Pumpelly Estate Carriage House located along the banks of the Susquehanna River in Owego, N.Y.

Guests attending can bring their votes (dollars) and donate to their favorite dancer the night of the show, and folks who can’t make it can vote before the thrilling night (either online at tiogaunitedway.com or visit the various locations throughout the county where each couple has a “Cast Your Vote” box). The dancers who raise the most money will win the mirror ball trophy for “People’s Choice!” There is no limit to the number of votes you can cast, so vote often.

The other winning couple (technical) will be determined by a panel of judges who all have noteworthy experience in competitive dance. The votes will be tallied and the winners will be announced at the end of the night.

Master of Ceremonies, Jerry Natoli, and disc jockey, Mike Neil, will be bringin’ down the house and keeping the audience captivated. A popular balloon pop will feature local wines, a one-night stay at the Pumpelly Estate and more. Another highlight of this sensational night is an exhibition dance by the handsome couple, Connie and Brian Sternberg. They have been rehearsing their performance and are sure to be an audience pleaser.

The Tioga United Way would like to extend a special thanks to the dedicated dance instructors who have graciously volunteered their time, sweat and mileage. They include Frank Como, Tony Farrand, Karen Harriell, Peggy Sayers, Tim Sayers, Emily Silvela, John Silvela and Chuck Williamson. They have trekked to Owego for rehearsals and meetings since June and they are eager to show Tioga County how the starz have mastered the Argentine tango, the waltz, the rumba, the jive, the swing, the cha-cha, the spicy salsa and more.

The Pumpelly Estate, the Blackbird Bakery & Eatery, and The Southern Tier Swing Dance Society are the major sponsors for this event. The Elks Lodge, Owego Gymnastics, V.F.W. (Post 1371) and the Four Seasons Fitness Studios have graciously allowed the dancers to rehearse in their spaces. They have all made this event possible and the Tioga United Way would like to thank them all.
