Tioga County Maple Producers participate in New York State Maple Weekends

The 2015 New York State Maple Weekend, now in its 20th year, actually takes place on two weekends this year, March 21 – 22 and March 28 – 29. During these days, sugar shacks all over New York State will open their doors to the public for tours, demonstrations and to showcase their products.

Tioga County has a long history of agriculture and farm products and produces some of the best maple syrup in the state.

This year, two Tioga County businesses are holding events for New York State Maple Weekend. Sweetrees Maple Products in Berkshire, N.Y. will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. both weekends on Saturday and Sunday. They will be gathering sap and processing it into maple syrup and will also offer tours of their sugar bush, the stand of maple trees they tap for sap. They will demonstrate making maple cream, granulated maple sugar and jack wax. Sweetrees makes an array of maple products, from syrup to candy to maple-covered nuts, and they will have samples available to try.

Hamley’s Farm in Barton, N.Y. will hold a pancake breakfast featuring their homemade maple syrup on Saturday, March 28 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. They will also offer tours and their maple syrup will be for sale.
