Dear Editor,
This is written to the parent of a young boy. I do not know his name. I met him at a local grocery store – John’s or the Community Shop, I forget which. This child of perhaps eight or nine years of age is wise beyond those years, you have taught him well.
When I first noticed him he was reaching for some packets of Kool-aide. Being short in stature he was standing on his toes. Unfortunately he could only reach the first row of boxes. Neither had the type he needed to add to his basket.
In his effort to reach the “back box” as we all have, he knocked the front boxes over and onto the floor. He placed his basket on the floor and collected the packets and reset them in the box, right side up facing forward. He had not run away nor had he grown much either.
I helped him get to the back packets to complete his list. Some of the items already in his basket included dish soap and feminine hygiene products, a tall order for a “short dude.”
My hat is off to you and your child. You have re-established my faith in the younger generation. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Kerry M. Howe
