Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral club announces dates for annual show

Pictured, is a pyrite from Spain.

The members of the Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Club are proud to announce the dates for their 46th annual show. The show will be held on March 28 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on March 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This very popular event will take place at the Athens Township Volunteer Fire Hall, 211 Herrick Ave., Sayre.

As you enter the hall, the first sights that will dazzle your eyes are the museum exhibits. Marc Wilson, section head, minerals, Carnegie Museum, will be presenting a collection that will amaze you.

Bill Klose will be representing the Museum of the Earth (Paleontological Research Institute) and will have a fossil display. He will be happy to talk to you about your recent fossil finds and their ages.

The junior members of the club will be manning the mini-mine where, for a nominal fee, an ore car will bring treasures out of the mine for you. Members of the club will be demonstrating lapidary skills, and if possible you will be able to create a cabochon.

In the large room of the building there will be dealers who will be showing and selling beautiful specimens of minerals and fossils. You can also purchase gems, jewelry and gem trees.

In another part of the building UV Bob will be presenting his extremely interesting and educational fluorescent show. As they say — ” see the rocks glow”. In another room you will have the opportunity to purchase a geode and have it cut in half.

Admission is a donation of $3 for adults, $1 for students, and eight and under are free.

A few people who shared a love of the mineral world formed the club 53 years ago. The name they chose was derived from the Chemung River and the Susquehanna River.

The club is a member of the Eastern Federation of Mineralogical and Lapidary Societies and also the American Federation of Mineralogical Societies and is a (501c3) not-for-profit organization.

They meet on the second Wednesday of the months of September thru November and January thru May in the cafeteria of the Sayre High School at 7 p.m. In December they have a party and in the summer months they have picnics. They learn and have fun every month. Visitors are always welcome.
