Vestal Museum opens doors for art show and sale

The Vestal Museum opens the doors of it’s historic building to showcase a diverse group of talented area artists skilled in many different styles and media. Come celebrate the awakening of spring. See how local artists are inspired by the surroundings and materials they choose to work with. The exhibit features a show and sale of area artists works in variety of media; paintings, portraits, prints, felted jacket, hats and scarfs, hooked rugs, quilted portraiture, nature carvings, doll restoration and reproductions, jewelry, functional potter, quilted art, a carousel quilt, and traditional quilts.
Exhibit will feature these artists and craftsmen;

Bob Merwin is a contemporary representational artist; his oils are characterized by realism, strong brushwork and a love for his subjects.  


Paul Uhlman, paints landscapes, seascapes, birds, and architecture. Realistic detail is what he likes most,

Carrie Dru Tornatore paints what she identifies with from the past;  Images include Celtic mythology and inspired paintings to a simple still life series.

  
Bonnie Hyne’s jackets and vests are created from recycled wool skirts and pants which have been laundered to create a thicker, felted wool.  Bonnie has also turned her talents to the creation of hooked rugs, included in this show.  


Marilyn Belford is well known for the quilted portrait of her parents. She continues to develop new works and has produced many figurative and Biblical pieces.  


Bill Underwood, of Abenaki Wood Sculpture has been carving and painting images from nature for most of his life.

Joan Lockburner Deuel creates work of exceptional color and form with her layering of painted, dyed and printed fabrics and thread.  


Denise Tarbox makes felt by hand. She blends hand dyed wool and silk, then forms it into wearable art - hats, scarfs and other items of clothing.  


Diane Lia’s pottery is beautiful and functional.  Her stoneware clay creations are oven proof, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe.

Barried Treasures, by Sharon Barrie,  handmade jewelry, a collection of one of kind beaded necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.   


Jim and Julie Taylor began Taylor Custom Fabrications, a doll costuming and repair business includes re-stringing to complete restoration of all surfaces; composition, bisque and cloth.  


Barbara Scott is a Porcelain Doll Artist, enjoying a teaching studio for the past 10 years. She is well know for her historic doll reproductions. In 2008 she was appointed an Instructor for the Doll Artisan Guild International. She also has been an Exhibitor with the Pennsylvania Gift Markets for 12 years.


The carousel quilt appearing in this show was produced by members of Common Threads. In addition, Carolyn Stella, Marge Burke, Claire Theophanis, Carol Bunnell will show creative historic and contempory quilted pieces.
