The deadline for ordering tree and shrub seedlings from the Tioga County Soil and Water Conservation District is March 31. A good selection of 11 evergreen seedlings and transplants and 24 deciduous tree and shrub seedlings are offered for sale in the Conservation Planting Program. Stock can be purchased in quantities of 10 or more of any one species or a choice can be made from the six packs of assorted species for different uses. Orders should be placed now to assure availability. Orders will be available for pick up on April 16 and 17.

Bluebird nesting boxes and bat houses are available for purchase now. A limited supply of nesting boxes for chickadees, house wrens, white breasted nuthatches, downy woodpeckers, flickers and other small birds are also available. Male bluebirds return to this area in late February and early March to find nesting sites for the spring. Bluebird boxes should be put up now.

Staff members of the Soil and Water Conservation District can advise landowners on what species are best suited to their soil and the type of planting desired such as windbreaks, wildlife habitat, ground covers, borders, Christmas trees, reforestation and other conservation uses. Proceeds from the sale will help support Conservation District Programs.
