Tired of the angry few

Dear Editor,

I am expressing disappointment with the repeated use of the Owego Pennysaver by what appears to be disgruntled individuals who anonymously slander the current Village of Owego Board of Trustees on matters pertaining to the Owego Fire Department or River Walk project. To what purpose do these repeated negative comments serve? How should concerned citizens interpret your motives?

Right or wrong, a decision was made by the Village of Owego Board to adhere to Village of Owego Charter and reduce the number of volunteer firemen, active or inactive to 200. What’s at stake, not enough active fire fighters to protect citizens or not enough volunteers, active or inactive, to control voting within the Fire Department? It appears you support reactivating terminated volunteers and that might be the right thing to do.

Whether you agree or not, the Village of Owego pursued and was awarded Federal and State funding to build the River Walk. Will this project bring more tourists to Owego? Will this project effectively stabilize the river bank from erosion? Only time will tell. Will the River Walk be under water at times? Yes.

I encourage the author or authors of these negative messages to come out from behind the Readers Column to meet and discuss possible solutions and make Owego a better place to live.
