During the school’s Parents as Reading Partners campaign at Tioga Hills, Principal Maslin challenged the student body to read for 25,000 minutes during a two-week period in February. Not only did they meet that challenge, they exceeded it by over three times that amount. Tioga Hill’s students read at home for 82,256 minutes.
As a reward, Mrs. Gilliland’s class, who came in on top with 13,357 minutes, had the honor of shaving Principal Maslin’s head during Morning Program last week. Everyone in the class got two swipes with the clipping shears, then went through the line again.
Mr. Maslin thought a free haircut was well worth it, telling his students, "We’d like you to do this every two weeks." The fun isn’t over yet. Tioga Hills runs a year-long PARP program, and this year’s campaign, which began on November 2, 2009, isn’t finished until April 30. Maybe Principal Maslin’s hair will have grown back by then.
