Owego Police Department activity for the period Feb. 22 through Feb. 28

An elderly female called the Owego Police Department to report a suspicious condition. The victim explained that she had received a call from an unknown subject claiming to be her grandson and requesting money. The victim contacted family members and determined that the request was a fraudulent attempt to obtain money. ~ Officers are investigating the theft of mail from a North Avenue address. The postal service and property landlord were contacted and the incident is under investigation. ~ Patrols were dispatched to a North Avenue apartment house in regard to the report of a female screaming. Investigation showed that the screaming was actually a juvenile male subject out of control. The subject and his parents were referred to Tioga County Mental Health for evaluation. ~ Steven Sanders, age 19, and Zachary Vanderburg, age 20, both of Endicott, were arrested and charged with Theft of Services for failing to pay for a taxi ride. The subjects were accused of receiving a taxi ride from Endicott to Owego and fleeing the cab without paying. After processing, both subjects were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Village Court at a later date. ~ Officers responded to a reported landlord tenant dispute on Front Street. Investigation showed that the landlord had plowed snow up against the tenants car which was legally parked on the street. The incident was mediated and the landlord was issued a traffic summons for driving the wrong way on a one way street. ~ Deanna Brace of Owego was stopped on Montrose Avenue and cited for disobeying a traffic control device. ~ James Gruver of Vestal was cited for traveling the wrong way on a one way street on Paige Street. ~ Jennifer Zambriski of Weston Florida was stopped on Southside Drive and cited for disobeying a traffic control device. ~ Ryan Howell-Johnson of Owego was stopped on West Main Street and issued traffic tickets for uninspected motor vehicle, and inadequate lights. ~ Shane Walker of Nichols was stopped on North Avenue and cited for speeding 42 mph in a 30mph zone. ~ Peter Losier of Nichols was issued a summons for consumption of alcohol in a motor vehicle after the vehicle he was a passenger in was stopped on North Avenue.
