New York State Champions Crowned in Elks Hoop Shoot Competition

The Liverpool Elks Lodge #2348 hosted the New York State Hoop Shoot Finals on Feb. 27 in Baldwinsville, NY. After making their way through three rounds of competition, 24 boys and girls advanced to this level. Three boys and girls were crowned state champions and now will advance onto the Regional "Hoop Shoot" Finals being held in Wilkes-Barre, PA on March 27, 2010.
Grace Thomas (Owego Elks Lodge 1039) from Apalachin, a 3rd grader at Apalachin Elementary School was crowned the NYS Champion in the girl’s eight to nine year old division. She will now be competing against the state champions from Pennsylvania and New Jersey. At stake is the privilege to compete at the Nationals in Springfield, Massachusetts in April where the winners’ names will be engraved on plaques in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
