Mayor Arrington wins by margin of 12 votes; Citizens Party Trustees sweep into seats

OWEGO, N.Y. -- In what was dubbed one of the most highly contested elections in Tioga County, N.Y. this March, Incumbent Mayor Ed Arrington narrowed into a win with just 12 votes separating him and his opponent, Rich Watkins of the Citizens Party. Tallied votes as of 5:30 a.m. on March 17 revealed 514 votes for Arrington arriving, and 502 for Watkins.

Under the Citizens Party, opponents Thomas Clark, Jim Legursky, Kenneth Smith and Anne Lockwood received more votes than Grace Thomas, Melody Patterson, Nathan Kennedy and Ray Rushing - all running on the Concerned Taxpayers Party ticket with Mayor Ed Arrington.

It was also reported Wednesday morning, by the Village Office, that Rod Marchewka was elected into the position of Clerk-Treasurer with 515 votes; Krista Welch had 361 votes. Dave Boland retained his seat for Village Justice with 669 votes, according to village officials; Richard Kidney had 84 votes

It was also noted by the village office that the newly elected officials will begin serving at the first village board meeting scheduled for April 5, 2010.

Upon news of the results, Patrick Gavin wanted to thank all those who supported the Citizens Party, and all who came out to vote. It was a great turn-out said Gavin, and we appreciated the support.

Mayor Ed Arrington was asked for comment on the election, but chose not to comment at this time.
