Lourdes Hospital unveiled the winning name in its "Name The daVinci Robot Contest" recently in the Hospital’s Lecture Hall. "Raphael", submitted by Rani Marhaba, was chosen as the winner. Rani received a new bicycle, a $50 Barnes & Noble gift card and a certificate. Runners-up were "Vetruvia" submitted by Ethan Willis, and "Zoe" submitted by Rachel Mattson. Ethan and Rachel received $25 Barnes & Noble gift cards and certificates. All three winners are sixth grade students at Vestal Middle School. As part of the award presentation, 75 sixth graders from Vestal Middle School enjoyed a pizza party in the company of "Raphael" and took turns "test-driving" the daVinci robot. Their class received a gift card for Satico’s. The contest was open to all area 4th – 6th grade students during the fall. The students submitted a name for the new robot and explained the meaning behind the name. More than 300 students entered the contest. WalMart, Phil’s Gift Shop, and Newman Development Group, Inc. were very generous in providing the prizes for the contest winners. The contest was part of the hospital’s promotion of its new daVinci Si HD Surgical System. This advanced technology allows doctors to treat patients needing surgery in the most minimally invasive fashion possible. Lourdes houses one of only two daVinci Si HD Surgical Systems in New York State.
