Charles is a 25 year old man who was shuffled from school to school as his mother sought employment and a place to live as Charles was growing up. Consequently, he never spent more than a few months in any one school or apartment. He is motivated to learn, but dropped out of school in the 10th grade to work to help support his mother and himself. Charles is only reading at the 4th grade level and wants to get his GED. Can you help?

We also have Buddhist monks who need help learning English (must have a male tutor), young mothers from a local shelter who want to improve their reading skills, and older adults who are seeking to improve their literacy skills. All of these people need you to help them. We have never had such an extensive waiting list of students!

Literacy Volunteers is a free service to our students utilizing the help of volunteer tutors to really make a long-term change in the lives of our neighbors, friends, and people we meet every day. Call us to sign up today. Our next Tutor Training will be held at the Endicott Library on the following days (Monday or Thursday evenings) from 5-8pm. March 11, 15, 22, April 1, and 8.
