The following lettter was received from Erwin Flohrs. Erwin has been taking care of and decorating Tioga County graves of veterans who are laid to rest in the Netherlands.
Dear Mister Raftis,
We’ve been doing not much the last months, getting back to work again, trying to relax.
Quinten is feeling much better now and he is growing hair again. It’s a good sight to see him full of energy, going to school, attending his swimming lessons again and without any concerns and the same goes for us.
At the end of March and beginning of April Quinten will have some tests again and that will be nerve wrecking again but we think positively.
This winter we had the most snow in years. I can´t remember the last time when it snowed so much and that it stayed. Let´s hope the weather will get better soon with some higher temperatures. I like warm weather more. Now the temperatures are slightly above freezing temperature.
You asked about a picture of our family.
Last weekend it was the yearly Carnaval. It’s a tradition in the lower part of the country. People get dressed in all kind of costumes and go to the bar, watch parades, have parties, eat junk food and a lot of them get drunk.
Carnaval lasts four days and starts on Saturday. We don´t celebrate it ourselves as we want to go out when we want to. About half of the people in this part of the country go out to celebrate Carnaval. These are not National holidays by the way.
This Carnaval we went to a small house that we rented for a weekend. There was some recreation around so we went swimming and walked through the woods. All the snow melted away the last week but it snowed a bit again last weekend so the view was nice.
I included a picture of our family which I had taken when we walked there.
From left to right above is my wife Angela and me. Below from left to right you see Quinten and our oldest son Mark who is 10 years old and our youngest son Luke who is four years old. Quinten is seven years old by the way.
So far this mail.
Until next time.
Best regards,
Erwin
