More than 220 people attended the 2009 Guthrie Gala Oct. 31 at the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center in Horseheads, N.Y. The theme of this year’s gala was “A Night of Enchantment,” and the event was sponsored by Chesapeake Energy.
This year’s event raised a total of $45,770, which will benefit the Sayre House of Hope, a residence that provides family-centered lodging to patients and their loved ones during medical treatment at Guthrie. In addition to securing more than $38,000 in sponsorships, more than $10,000 was raised with the auction held during the evening. The evening also included dinner, dancing, and a 50/50 raffle.
“It’s amazing with the struggling economy and the tough times individuals and businesses are facing, we were able to raise this kind of money in support of the House of Hope,” said Corporate Event and Campaign Manager Cathy Sitzman. “In addition to Chesapeake’s major contribution of $10,000, we were successful in securing an additional $5,000 in sponsorships over last year’s total.”
This year’s Guthrie Gala Committee members included Denise Ives, JoAnne Kizer, Lynn Pliske, Cynthia Porter, Sherry Reynard, Linda Scopelliti, Cathy Sitzman, Elizabeth Hibbard, Debbie Stensager, Pam Vasey and Michelle Watkins.
