Dear Editor, I am writing to support the Apalachin Fire Department in their endeavor to renovate their #1 station. Everyone should have to walk in their boots once to see what they do at a fire, or dealing with a patient on an ambulance call! When my husband goes on a call (fire or ambulance) I never know what time he will be home. It may take an hour or four depending on the call. After twenty plus years, I still don't sleep well at night until he comes home. His life, and other firemen’s lives, could be put on the line at any time helping others, and these are volunteers helping their Apalachin community. It is difficult for me, that they put their lives at risk to help others, but it is unfortunate that the station adds to these risks. These men and women also have to train once a week and keep taking courses to keep up with state requirements that are needed. They not only go to fires and ambulance calls, they also answer car fires, car accidents, flooding problems, carbon monoxide calls, toxic spills, downed power lines, chimney fires and any other emergencies. I urge the residents of the Apalachin Fire District to vote yes on Tuesday March 16. Sincerely, Linda J Roden Apalachin, N.Y.
