Fire destroys home on Gary Hunt Road

On March 15, at approximately 2:40 p.m., firefighters responded to a fire call at the home of Mike and Virginia Young on Gary Hunt Road in Owego.
According to Owego's Assistant Fire Chief Danny Gavin, the Young's were not home when the fire broke out and subsequently destroyed their home.
Gavin also noted that firefighters from Owego, Campville, Weltonville, Tioga Center, Newark Valley and Southside Fire Stations responded to the Monday afternoon blaze.
Although the cause of the fire has not yet been determined, officials mentioned that an appliance may have led to the cause.
Mike Young, who is a New York State Trooper, and Virginia Young, who is a mother and accomplished vocalist and girls softball coach in Owego Little League, were out of town at the time of the fire and were not available for comment for this reporting.
The community has already started to pull together to assist the family in replacing photos that might have been lost in the fire, and are beginning to come together to offer support.
