It was announced on National Read Across America Day, recognized on March 2, that Owego Free Academy senior Christian Kowalski-Reynolds has been selected to attend the 13th annual Alaska Points of Light Youth Leadership Institute in Anchorage Alaska scheduled for March 8 to March 12.

The Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, in collaboration with the Alaska Youth Development Fund and Friends of Alaska PYLI, are making it possible for Christian to attend the five day volunteer service and community leadership training for high school students from across Alaska and sponsored by Prudential Financial and the Points of Light & Hands On Network.

The training is being held at the Anchorage Salvation Army campus and will involve 40 hours of creative leadership skill building for designing and implementing high quality community service projects.

National PYLI master trainer and founder of the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, Bob Bassett, stated that "Christian Reynolds represents the next generation of community leaders and we are pleased that he can come to Alaska to share his Tioga County New York volunteer experiences and ideas for community improvement with Alaskan youth." Christian will join 29 other students in grades 8-12 including Inupiat Eskimo students from Barrow, Alaska, the northern most community in the United States.

Upon his return to Owego, he will help organize Spring volunteer service activities for local youth including the April 24 Walk For Books in Owego and May 1 Join Hands Day beautification projects, and assist students in receiving national recognition with the 2010 President's Volunteer Service Awards.
