Dear Editor, This letter is in response to several comments in the Pennysaver the week of February 21. First, a reader called in and said what the truth was out about the 20 percent tax increase. The state of the village shows this statement to be false. The 20 percent increase was over a period of four years the mayor was in office, not one year. Second, about the mayor closing the bars in the fire stations. The bars have been in the fire station for years - our firefighters are not drunken idiots, they do not go to the fire stations just to sit and drink. By the way, in case you are wondering, I am not a volunteer fireman. Third, for the party that would like to meet the candidates at the County Office Building. We are hosting a "meet your candidates " brunch on February 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Owego Elks. Please come and talk with us and see that we are trying to do what is best for the citizens of Owego. With your support we can do that. Fourth, someone made the comment about mayor bashing. The citizens party is not about bashing anyone. If it was, I would not be running for trustee. We do have a platform and, as stated previously, come meet your candidates and talk with them. Fifth, about the ploy of a trustee resigning in mid term. Did it ever occur to you that the person may have had personal business or health reasons and thought it would be best to resign? This person is still qualified to be a trustee. I would like to thank the citizens party for asking me to run for trustee and in having faith in me. Also I want to thank the 100’s of people who signed our petition. Sincerely, Jim Legursky Owego, NY
