In 1981 the members of Zion Lutheran Church stepped out in faith and built a Preschool and Elementary School located just west of the village of Owego on Rt. 17C. The goal of the congregation was to share God’s Word with the children of the community. Since the opening of the school almost thirty year ago, hundreds and hundreds of families from all denominations have been blessed with the Christian education their children received at Zion.

Zion Lutheran School is a private Christian elementary school of Grades Pre-K through 5th grade, attended by approximately 50 children from the local communities of Owego, Apalachin, Newark Valley, Tioga Center, Nichols, Endicott, Candor, Berkshire and Spencer. Zion’s only source of revenue is through tuition, registration fees and the support of dedicated parishioners.

To better serve the families of the church and community, Zion Lutheran School is taking another step. Starting school year 2010–11, with hope and prayer, they wish to reduce tuition for the families who enroll their children at Zion. When a family makes the commitment to enroll their child and they meet the registration requirements, their child receives "Education Excellence Powered by God." The foundation and academic excellence that each child receives at Zion has been proven time and again over the last 30 years.

How can you help? They’re asking the community to join them in supporting a child’s introduction to Jesus Christ and a lifelong foundation of faith in Him with one or more sponsorships. Their goal is for 40 sponsorships by the end of February to help afford tuition for 40 children.
