On Feb. 19, the local Girl Scouts of the Tioga East and Tioga Center/Nichols service units held a Sock Hop and collected non-perishable foods for the local food pantry. The evening was full of dancing, hula hoop and limbo! The girls got to meet new friends and dress up in '50's clothing. The event was planned by Girl Scout Ambassadors in Troops 686 and 1115.

NICHOLS, N.Y. -- It has been a little over a week since a fire that broke out in a century old home in the Town of Nichols claimed the life of 79-year old Carolyn (Bean) Donnelly, and left 81-year old Nathan (Mickey) Donnelly with 1st and 2nd degree burns on 30 percent of his body.

After months of engineering studies, and two meetings that didn't receive approval or recommendations for a requested special use permit to transform the old Matthews Chevrolet facility on Taylor Road in Tioga County into a facility for the treatment of wastewater from gas drilling sites, Patriot Treatment, LLC has made a decision to withdraw their applications.
This news came from the Town of Owego on Wednesday afternoon; and according to Deb Standinger, Town of Owego Planning and Zoning Administrator, the owners of Patriot Water, LLC did not give a specific reason for their withdrawal.

TIOGA COUNTY, N.Y. -- The owners of Patriot Water Treatment, LLC will have to wait another week to find out whether their special use permit to develop a gas drilling wastewater site at the former Matthews Chevrolet location in Owego is approved, or whether the request will be denied in its entirety.
