The Millipede Invasion Has Begun!

Every year in mid to late summer the Master Gardener Growline receives numerous calls concerning small brown or black "worms" invading yards and swimming pools. Like a sci-fi movie, callers describe black and wriggling masses outside their homes and an unbearable crunch with each step! What these people are experiencing is a millipede migration. No one knows for sure why millipedes migrate, but drought, heavy rainfall, and the search for the right spot to hibernate are all possibilities. Typically this is a problem for people who live near bodies of water or near wooded areas.

Three arrested for home invasion

The Tioga County Sheriff's Office reported on Thursday that on July 15, 2010 they responded to a home invasion complaint in the Town of Barton, NY. (read more)
