Every year in mid to late summer the Master Gardener Growline receives numerous calls concerning small brown or black "worms" invading yards and swimming pools. Like a sci-fi movie, callers describe black and wriggling masses outside their homes and an unbearable crunch with each step! What these people are experiencing is a millipede migration. No one knows for sure why millipedes migrate, but drought, heavy rainfall, and the search for the right spot to hibernate are all possibilities. Typically this is a problem for people who live near bodies of water or near wooded areas.

Twenty-six Tioga County 4-H Market Animal Science members brought their quality-raised animals to the 43rd annual 4-H Livestock Sale held during the recent Tioga County Fair. The 4-H’ers presented their animals in shows during the week, met with perspective buyers and then sold the animals for a sale total of $13,647.08.
The grand champion market steer raised by Marissa Price, Owego, NY, weighed 1364 pounds and was purchased by Ward & Van Scoy, Inc., Owego, NY, for $1.60 per pound. The reserve grand champion market steer raised by Donald Van Dusen, Barton, NY, weighed 1342 pounds and was purchased by Porter’s Simmental Lake Ranch, Waverly, NY, for $1.15 per pound.

Double elimination games are underway on Hyde Park’s four diamond complex in the 15th Annual Owego 12U Baseball Tournament. Weeknight games start at 6 p.m., and Saturday at 10 a.m.
It’s a 14-team tournament. There are six teams in the A Division – Binghamton, Vestal, Ithaca, Johnson City, Athens and Waverly - and eight teams in the B Division – Owego, West Corners, Ithaca and Ithaca Dragons, Nichols, Northern Tioga and two Vestal teams.
Tournament Director Debi Schmidt welcomes support from members of the OLL family. Say "I’m here to help" when you report to the Concession Stand for your volunteer assignment.

Gary D. Finch (R,C,I - Springport) will be holding a Town Hall meeting on Wednesday, July 28 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. at the Tioga County Office Building in Owego. The purpose of the meeting is to update residents on the 2010-2011 State Budget and the People's Convention to Reform New York.
"This year's mess of a session, along with the fact that the Senate still has not passed their portion of the budget showcases just how badly we need true, sweeping change in New York," said Finch.
