The Lyceum Program Committee met in July to develop long-range goals. By then it was clear Lyceum would be providing classes via Zoom and the behind the scenes work to make that happen had already begun. <\/p>\n
The committee was determined to turn necessity into an advantage, being no longer limited to engaging local instructors only. Hence, hold your seat, the instructor for \u201cTuscan Epicure Cooking,\u201d Maddine Insalaco, will beam her expertise from far-off Italy.<\/p>\n
Presenting \u201cFrom Georgia with Peace: Jimmy Carter and the Camp David Peace Accords,\u201d Joshua Montanari, employed by the Jimmy Carter Library and Museum, will offer his class from Atlanta, Ga. <\/span><\/p>\n Jesse Lewis will deliver \u201cCrisis Management in the Time of COVID\u201d from DC, \u201cPost-retirement Journey from Corp to Self-Employed\u201d will broadcast from NYC, \u201cGrant Woods\u201d from the Rockwell Museum in Corning, and \u201cHonoring Experience: The Nonfiction Art of Showing\u201d from Cortland.<\/p>\n The Program Committee also developed a database aimed at providing more diversity, both with topics related to a broader range of ethnic groups and sexual orientations and with the instructors. <\/span><\/p>\n Hailing from India, Dipti Bramhandkar offers her play, \u201cIsland of Contentment,\u201d while Brenda Brown of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority-Apalachin Alumnae Chapter is offering \u201cSocial and Emotional Diversity Gone Wrong\u201d. \u201cUnjust Laws: Abolition in Central NY\u201d by Dr. Phyllis Amenda, \u201cHuman Sexual Identity\u201d by Dr. Kelly Clark of BU\u2019s Q Center, \u201cRoman Middle East\u201d by Dr. Nathan Andrade, \u201cAutonomous Intelligent Robots\u201d by Drs. Shiqi Zhang and Kaiyan Yu, and \u201cEmployee Well-Being through Generative Growth\u201d by Ana Barrio Lopez also help achieve this goal.<\/p>\n Another long-range goal is providing more evening and weekend classes for those still working. There are 23 evening sessions and one weekend event scheduled during the winter and spring sessions. Between winter and spring, 69 courses will be offered, totaling 121 individual sessions. <\/p>\n A new concept to their programming was introduced, titled \u201cNotable Nonfiction,\u201d a discussion-oriented class that features a note-worthy work of nonfiction led by a facilitator. Offered the third Monday afternoon of each four-week session, the expectation is that participants will read the book beforehand. <\/span><\/p>\n Yuval Noah Harari\u2019s Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind<\/i> is the winter session offering, and The Ghost Map<\/i> and Surrender, White People<\/i> will be offered during the two spring sessions.<\/p>\n Any disappointment felt by not offering face-to-face classes will be truly tempered by their gratifying success employing that platform during the fall sessions and by the exciting upcoming classes being offered. <\/p>\n Winter \/ spring membership is only $30.
