On Thursday, the number of COVID-19 cases in Tioga County was reaching 70, with a total of 72 in mandatory quarantine, one individual in precautionary quarantine, and 20 have recovered. <\/span><\/p>\n

As for Tioga County Public Health, they are continuing to work seven days a week to monitor positive cases as well as those in quarantine or isolation. Over the past week, according to public health officials, the county has seen the biggest increase of cases to date, and have unfortunately experienced lost lives to COVID-19. To date, and at the time of this reporting, there have been four deaths in Tioga County as a result of the virus.<\/p>\n

On April 7, the Department of Health reported that an employee at the Family Dollar in Newark Valley had tested positive for COVID-19. Anyone that shopped at the store on April 1 or 2 was asked to quarantine for 14 days. Several people did get tested for COVID-19 as a result of this incident, and no additional positive cases related to this incident were revealed.<\/p>\n

Over the past several weeks they have been monitoring the positive COVID-19 cases until they are released from isolation. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have seen a trend that many of our new cases are from family members living in the same household as a positive case,\u201d Department of Health officials stated in a recent release. <\/span><\/p>\n

The Department advised that there are ways to prevent spreading COVID-19 to other household members. They recommend that if you or someone in your household gets sick, the best way to prevent infecting others in the home is by isolating away from them. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThis means you should avoid all contact with them including staying in a separate bedroom and using a different bathroom,\u201d health officials stated, adding, \u201cIf someone in your house tests positive, it is recommended that everyone they live with should also be tested for COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n

Officials are also reminding residents to wear a mask when out in public and when social distancing cannot be practiced. For directions on how to easily make a mask, visit www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prevent-getting-sick\/diy-cloth-face-coverings.html<\/a>. <\/span><\/p>\n

Tioga County\u2019s Chairwoman, Martha Sauerbrey, also reported that the Department of Social Services (DSS) now has a new, free mobile application available to county residents that enables them to submit necessary documents. <\/span><\/p>\n

NYDocSubmit is a mobile app that provides individuals who have applied for, or are receiving DSS benefits, the ability to simply and quickly submit documentation to DSS. This mobile app is available for download on Google Play or the Apple App Store (search for NYDocSubmit) and can be used to take photos of documents and upload them to Tioga County DSS.
