Two members of the local musical group, the Apalachin Annies, are scheduled to perform holiday music. Therapy horses from Fargnoli Farms will be outside at the pavilion, and guests are encouraged to learn about the role they play in helping people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Games and crafts will be on-hand, including make-your-own ornaments and decorate-your-own gingerbread cookies. In the library\u2019s children\u2019s room the Elf will read classic stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Library Director Cathy Sorber remarked about the new pavilion, \u201cWe are looking forward to 2020 and hosting lots of fun activities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 20 x 60 pavilion is located in the lawn of the library\u2019s property. The pavilion, which is topped off by a metal roof and features a cement floor, is equipped with electricity and was built in a month\u2019s time by a local contractor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sorber explained that a considerable portion of the funding, $13,000, was arranged via the office of Assemblyman Christopher S. Friend, PhD (R,C, I-Big Flats) who represents parts of Broome and Chemung Counties, as well as all of Tioga County. The remaining funds for the project were provided via the Library Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Assemblyman Friend commented via email, “Across most of upstate, our libraries are the community center. In all the interactions that our office has had with the Apalachin Library we have always been very impressed by the many activities happening there. The library staff has taken to heart a mission to be a vibrant community resource, and making the facilities available to many groups and meetings,\u201d and added, \u201cWe are pleased to have been able to help in a small way toward the realization of this impressive pavilion that we anticipate will be used by many residents in wonderful ways to inspire reading and life-long learning.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The pavilion, for Apalachin Library use only, will give the library much more flexibility for outdoor events.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Library Assistant Wendy Decker mentioned that popular gatherings such as the Teddy Bear Picnic, youth summer reading and other summer programs for children and families are just a few examples of how the library will benefit from the pavilion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Apalachin Library offers activities such as preschool storytime, book discussions, crafting sessions, yoga classes, Mahjong, STEAM, American Girl dolls, a Book Barn, and meeting rooms for organizations, just to name a few. In addition, the library features access to computers and the Internet, and as a library within the Finger Lakes Library System, offers interlibrary services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Apalachin Library is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are closed on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
