According to New York State Police, Troop C, A man is lucky to be alive after the quick actions of one of their Sergeants, along with two civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police, Sergeant Robert Bloom III was on his way to the Broome County Academy Graduation on Friday, at around noon, to play with the pipes and drums and dressed in a kilt when saw smoke on Tioga Terrace in Apalachin.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From a distance, Sergeant Bloom observed that the residence, located at 58 Brookside Ave. West, was on fire.\u00a0Once on scene, he discovered that a male who is bedridden was trapped inside.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sergeant Bloom, the bedridden man\u2019s father, and a neighbor went into action and entered the burning residence. They were able to successfully get the man into a wheelchair and out of the home. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the men were transported to area hospitals for smoke inhalation and are in stable condition.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sergeant Bloom is a seven-year veteran with the New York State Police.\u00a0He worked as a trooper on patrol out of State Police in Deposit and later out of State Police in Endwell before becoming a Sergeant and currently works out of Sidney.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
