Did you ever swim the rapids with King Salmon? That was one of many memorable activities that boys and girls from Scouting BSA Troops 38 and 638 in Owego, N.Y. recently experienced during a fun-filled weekend in Pulaski, N.Y. The Scouts completed the skills required to earn the Canoeing and Whitewater Merit Badges while camping at scenic Selkirk Shores State Park on Lake Ontario. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Scouts learned and demonstrated many skills including basic CPR and First Aid, various canoeing strokes, canoeing recovery methods, whitewater fundamentals, kayaking and rafting, self-extraction from rapids, and team recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scouts thoroughly enjoyed learning new skills and applying them with confidence, highlighted by a multi-mile whitewater run with perfect September weather on the Salmon River.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scouts of Troop 38 and 638 have many more exciting adventures planned for this year. Boys and girls from age 11 that are interested in mastering a wide range of skills, developing leadership and teamwork, and participating in unique adventures are encouraged to learn more about the program.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n
