Many of our readers have inquired about the sale of our building, so we would like to offer some clarification, as well as our plans moving forward. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Owego Pennysaver was founded in June 1936 by Otto Nagel, and continues to be offered free to the community, and with a distribution of approximately 20,000 within Tioga and its two surrounding counties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In recent years, The Owego Pennysaver has experienced changes that led to the decision to place our main offices, located at 181-183 Front St. in Owego, up for sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a part of Towanda Printing\u2019s Weekly Group, The Owego Pennysaver\u2019s parent company located in Towanda, Pa., it made fiscal sense last year for the company to move its inserting operation to the Towanda plant. Because of this action, the current building that houses The Owego Pennysaver is too large for staffing levels. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“We take great pride in our Front Street location,\u201d said Dave Barry, publisher for Towanda Printing and the Weekly Group. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, \u201cIt’s important for us to be a visible participant in the community we serve. However, our current location is simply too much building for us. We would love to see another business thrive in this prime location. We will find something close to here that better suits our operating needs.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon the sale of our current building, The Owego Pennysaver will be seeking another location in the downtown district of Owego and will continue delivering free community news and the advertising and inserts that many look forward to each week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the meantime, we will keep our readers informed of any changes as they occur while delivering area news, straight to your doorstep, like we have done for over 60 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
