{"id":72290,"date":"2019-04-06T06:45:10","date_gmt":"2019-04-06T10:45:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.owegopennysaver.com\/PS\/?p=72290"},"modified":"2019-04-06T06:45:21","modified_gmt":"2019-04-06T10:45:21","slug":"the-chesapeake-bay-in-new-york","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.owegopennysaver.com\/PS\/2019\/04\/06\/the-chesapeake-bay-in-new-york\/","title":{"rendered":"The Chesapeake Bay in New York"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Chesapeake Bay Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) and Watershed Implementation Plans (WIPs) &#8211; what are these things, and what do they mean for you as a resident of New York State?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Upper Susquehanna Coalition is hosting a public event on Monday, April 8, 2019, from 1 to 3 p.m. where New York State\u2019s Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) will provide an overview of what this all means, as well as a time for you to provide feedback and ask questions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Susquehanna River Watershed and the Chemung River Watershed form the headwaters to the Chesapeake Bay here in New York, with land area across 19 New York counties that eventually drains to the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. The Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) is essentially the projected nutrient load that the Chesapeake Bay can receive from numerous nutrient sources and still attain water quality standards for dissolved oxygen and clarity.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"791\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/owego\/files\/2019\/04\/Bay_Meetings-791x1024.jpg\" alt=\"The Chesapeake Bay in New York\" class=\"wp-image-72291\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/owego\/files\/2019\/04\/Bay_Meetings-791x1024.jpg 791w, http:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/owego\/files\/2019\/04\/Bay_Meetings-232x300.jpg 232w, http:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/owego\/files\/2019\/04\/Bay_Meetings-768x994.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.greenstreetdata.com\/PS\/owego\/files\/2019\/04\/Bay_Meetings.jpg 1275w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 791px) 100vw, 791px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Those nutrient sources are broken up into five main source sectors: Agriculture, Wastewater, Urban, Forest and Septic. Each of these source sectors is assigned target nutrient reduction goals in the TMDL to meet by 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Department of Environmental Conservation, your local Soil and Water Conservation District through the Upper Susquehanna Coalition, along with other partners are the lead on developing New York\u2019s Watershed Implementation Plan (WIP).
