Friend and Senator Fred Akshar welcomed the Newark Valley High School (NVHS) Women\u2019s Choir to the State Capitol recently to help celebrate the Music in Our Schools Month.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) and the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) coordinate numerous choirs, orchestras, bands and jazz ensembles from various schools to perform at the Empire Plaza in Albany.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMusic education is a valued part of a well-rounded education for New York\u2019s students and we are happy to celebrate Music in Our Schools Month with the NVHS Women\u2019s Choir,\u201d said Friend and Akshar. \u201cMusic not only sparks creativity but studies show it has multiple benefits in developing learning, memory, analytical skills and more.
