The fifth annual Kathy Hansen School of Dance (KHSOD) Variety Show in support of Camp Ahwaga is scheduled for Sunday, April 7, starting at 1 p.m. at the Owego Middle School auditorium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year\u2019s show, choreographed by KHSOD, will feature several entertaining dance numbers evolving around the popular story, \u201cMary Poppins.\u201d   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also performing at the show will be well-known pianist, Rick Pedro, along with the Binghamton University Dance Team and the Binghamton University African Drumming and Dance Ensemble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Special guest, Jared Lamb, a Tioga County youth who recently competed in the Special Olympics World Games in Abu Dhabi, will take the stage to discuss his experiences at the games, as well as show the numerous medals he received.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The inspiration behind the fundraiser started five years ago when KHSOD learned that one of their dancer\u2019s siblings attended Camp Ahwaga. Since then, the fundraiser has provided a platform for the dancers to perform in front of a live audience prior to their competition season, which starts in May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camp Ahwaga, a non-profit, provides summer educational and recreational day programs for Tioga County youth with various disabilities, as well as a year-round recreational program that features monthly activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dancers Gabby Petitt, Tatiana Tavares and Shelby Steele are excited for the show, and explained that supporting Camp Ahwaga is an opportunity for them to give back to other youth in the area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shelby commented, \u201cThe show will put everyone in a good mood with fun songs,\u201d and all three dancers agreed that, \u201cIt will be enjoyable for the audience.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

KHSOD dancers have been preparing since their season began last year at the dance studio located at 963 Glenmary Dr. in Owego. As many as 11 costume changes will take place during the show, and several props have been designed to help bring the Mary Poppins story to life. Guests who are familiar with Mary Poppins will enjoy dance routines tailored to such songs as \u201cSupercalifragilisticexpialidocious.\u201d     <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Numerous dance styles will be showcased, including group and solo numbers, to include jazz, tap, lyrical and hip hop, among others. Gabby is set to perform a contemporary solo and Tatiana will perform a tap solo.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shelby will perform a jazz solo entitled, \u201cDangerous\u201d and a lyrical solo named, \u201cVia Dolorosa.\u201d Shelby and her younger sister, Ashleigh, are set to perform a duet called, \u201cAngel Standing By.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
