The Alzheimer\u2019s Association, Central New York Chapter invites Binghamton area residents to join the fight to end Alzheimer\u2019s by participating in the Alzheimer\u2019s Association Walk to End Alzheimer\u2019s\u00ae. The Walk will take place on Saturday, April 27, at Binghamton University\u2019s West Gym. Walkers and teams can register to participate at alz.org\/walk<\/a> or call (607) 785-7852.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event begins with registration and check-in at 8:45 a.m. The opening ceremony takes place at 10 a.m., followed by the Walk through campus. Local long-term care provider United Methodist Homes is the local presenting sponsor for the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Walk day, participants will honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease with Promise Flowers during the poignant Promise Garden Ceremony \u2013 a moving display of hope to represent the personal reasons participants join together to fight Alzheimer\u2019s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWalk To End Alzheimer\u2019s\u00ae is more than a fundraising event,\u201d said Catherine James, chief executive officer for the Alzheimer\u2019s Association, Central New York Chapter. \u201cIt\u2019s a community event that unites families living with the impact of Alzheimer\u2019s disease or other dementias, those who have lost people they care about to Alzheimer\u2019s, and those who recognize how the disease affects this rapidly aging region of the state.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More than five million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s disease \u2013 the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Additionally, more than 16 million family members and friends provide care to people with Alzheimer\u2019s and other dementias. In New York alone, there are more than 400,000 people living with the disease and over 1 million others are Alzheimer\u2019s or dementia caregivers. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
