On Dec. 7, downtown Owego will light up and be in a full festive celebration as the Historic Owego Marketplace presents the annual \u201cLights on the River\u201d event, taking place throughout downtown Owego. The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m., with the fireworks capping off the evening at 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

Visitors are invited to enjoy an evening filled with family-friendly activities, including a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, Owego Free Academy music students performing and then caroling around town, roaming holiday banjo music by Robert Seiger until 7 p.m., Juggler Will Stafford, specials at area merchants – some offering live entertainment, the Purple Lightening Band performing down Lake Street around 6:30 p.m., and a spectacular riverside fireworks show at 8 p.m. <\/p>\n

And, of course, the \u201cCountdown to the Lights\u201d will take place at 5:59 p.m. at the Courthouse Square. After, Santa and Mrs. Claus will continue to the Elks Lodge, located at 223 Front St. until 8 p.m. to greet children. Photos will be available by Michelle Cady.<\/p>\n

The Tioga History Museum will also be open throughout the evening, offering a view of their O Tannenbaum Christmas Tree Display and fundraiser. The O Tannenbaum display continues at the museum, located at 110 Front St., until Dec. 15. <\/p>\n

Enjoy the charm of the historic streets of Owego as you stroll through downtown. Shop at one of Owego\u2019s unique stores featuring hand-crafted art, crafts and antiques, and be sure to enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants Owego has to offer.<\/p>\n
