The Newark Valley United Church of Christ would like to celebrate their commitment to the community and would like to bring people together through art and music. The church recently announced they would be hosting their first annual Fall Art and Spring Music Competition for residents of Tioga and Broome County.   <\/p>\n

You do not need to be a church member to participate, but must be a resident of Tioga or Broome County.  <\/p>\n

Artists and musicians have the unique opportunity to participate by creating original artworks and original music that highlight experiences or reflections upon the theme the church has chosen for this inaugural year, which is the of concept of \u201cReflections on Justice.\u201d<\/p>\n

Artwork can be in any form \u2013 painting, printing, sculpture or photography, while music compositions can be from any genre \u2013 classical, blues, world, folk, jazz, contemporary, rap, electronic, etc.<\/p>\n

Artists will be showcased at charity events at the church, at an art exhibition planned for Nov. 10, and during a musical concert event held in the early spring of 2019. Details for the Music competition will be announced at a later date.  <\/p>\n

For the art submission, the competition will consider all entries submitted up to Nov. 8, 2018. Entries may be brought to Newark Valley United Church of Christ, 32 S. Main St., Newark Valley, N.Y. on Sunday, Nov. 4 between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7 between 5 and 7 p.m. or Thursday Nov. 8, between 5 and 7 p.m. <\/p>\n

A reception and awards announcement will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. on Nov. 10.<\/p>\n

The Artwork will be displayed from Saturday, Nov. 10 through Sunday, Nov. 18. All artwork may be picked up after noon on Nov. 18.  <\/p>\n

Certificates and prizes will be given out for the top three entries and three merit entries for each age category. Submissions must be an original artwork piece, created solely by the individual artist.<\/p>\n

Prizes for age 12 to 15 are $100 for 1st, $75 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd; for ages 16 to 19, the prizes are $250 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd. In the Open age group of ages 19 and above, the prize money is $250 for 1st, $100 for 2nd, and $50 for 3rd.<\/p>\n
