Hundreds of dog lovers gathered at Hickories Park in Owego, N.Y. last Saturday for Sarah\u2019s Cause for Paws, an event held each year in memory of Sarah Jayne Orton.<\/p>\n

Presented by Cuddlebugs Dog Grooming, and in memory of Sarah, this year\u2019s event welcomed several vendors offering a variety of pet products and services, as well as representatives from local and regional rescue organizations.<\/p>\n

Sarah Jayne Orton was five years old when she died from complications surrounding Sepsis. Prior to her death, Sarah always asked for donations for a local humane society instead of birthday gifts. To carry out her wishes further, the family is host each year to this annual event. <\/p>\n

For the animal rescues, the event is a great way to get out and let the public know what they are doing behind the scenes to care for and rescue animals.<\/p>\n

Emily Bartholomay, from Pibbles and More, was set up last Saturday at the event, complete with a \u201cKiss-A-Bull, Love-A-Bull, Adopt-A-Bull Kissing Booth. Two young pups, available for adoption through the rescue, were on-hand to offer a smooch or two to guests.<\/p>\n

Stray Haven Humane Society was represented as well, and is a recipient of some of the funds raised through last Saturday\u2019s event. <\/p>\n

Kristi Snyder, president of the Board of Directors and volunteer at Stray Haven, was on-hand with information about their organization. Snyder specifically wanted to get the word out at the event about the shelter\u2019s expanded spay and neuter services.<\/p>\n

\u201cOne spay or neuter can save many lives,\u201d said Snyder of measures to reduce the overpopulation at shelters all over the United States, and right here at home.<\/p>\n

She also noted that volunteers are needed to help out at the spay and neuter clinic. Tasks range from comforting pets coming out of surgery to cleaning and intake.<\/p>\n

Offering a different type of service is Pawty Pups Daycare and Boarding, a locally run business that was represented at the Sarah\u2019s Cause for Paws on Saturday. <\/p>\n

Tammy Garafano, owner, was on-hand at the event with information about her daycare and boarding service. <\/p>\n

\u201cNo kennels are allowed,\u201d said Garafano of her in-home service located on Delphine Street in Owego. <\/p>\n

And thanks to the support received at this year\u2019s event, $10,111 was raised through sponsorships, donations, and gift baskets and more.<\/p>\n

Last week, a check for $5,000 was delivered to the local chapter of \u201cPibbles and More Animal Rescue\u201d.<\/p>\n

The next stop that day was The Broome County Humane Society, where volunteers dropped off supplies and paid an adoption fee for a dog named Legacy.<\/p>\n

At Stray Haven, in Waverly, N.Y., more supplies were dropped off as well as a check for $2,500. While there the volunteers decided to pay the adoption fee for another dog, Obie.<\/p>\n

In addition to the local donations, $1,000 continues to be given annually to the Baltimore Humane Society where Sarah had asked donations be made. (Her dog had been adopted from that facility.) You can learn more about this no-kill organization by visiting https:\/\/bmorehumane.org<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Another donation was made to North Carolina Paws Place to assist with their rebuild after Hurricane Florence.<\/p>\n
