On Friday, Saturday and Sunday of last week, and amidst cloudy skies with periods of rain, the Candor Chamber of Commerce was host to the 20th annual Candor Fall Festival, held in an around Candor, N.Y. <\/p>\n

Activities included the 28th Annual Catatonk Valley Woodcarvers Show and Sale, quilt displays, a block party, food, scarecrow contest, Goat Farm Tours and wine tasting, and much more.<\/p>\n

At the woodcarvers show last Saturday, food was served up by the Candor Fire Department as guests browsed through the displays of hand-carved artwork and items. <\/p>\n

The show offered everything from dragons and dragonflies to pendants and sculptures, as well as demonstrations of woodcarvings crafted by over 20 local carvers.<\/p>\n

Special at the show this year was a Memorial Table to honor Gilbert Fitzgerald, longtime Catatonk Wood Carver that passed away in January 2018. Fitzgerald\u2019s widow, Pat, had the display of her husband\u2019s wood carvings, as well as a photo album and a photo of Gilbert on the table. <\/p>\n

Down the road and at the Ambulance Garage, \u201ctoo many quilts to count\u201d were on display through the New Quilter\u2019s on the Block. <\/p>\n

According to Dianna Bennett, member, they hold a silent auction and raffle quilt as well, with proceeds benefiting the Ambulance Garage, where they hold their meetings, as well as another select non-profit agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the past we have donated to the food pantry and to the pre-school,\u201d said Bennett.<\/p>\n

New Quilter\u2019s on the Block representatives were also selling a book last Saturday that contains over 100 recipes from guild members. To obtain a copy of the book, inquire with any guild member or call (607) 342-7097.<\/p>\n

New Quilters on the Block was established in 1989, where they met in the basement of the Candor Free Library. The first quilt show, held in 1996 at the library, was the inspiration of Mary Dence, who is still an active member. <\/p>\n

Meetings for the New Quilter\u2019s on the Block are held every first and third Saturday of the month, at 9 a.m. at the Ambulance Garage.  <\/p>\n

A bit further down the road, and at the Allen Memorial Baptist Church, a Touch a Truck event was held for a fourth year. There were fire trucks, a bounce house, tractors and farm equipment, and activities for families of all ages.<\/p>\n

According to church member Tammy Podufalski, the church has held the event for four years.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been lucky with the weather until this year,\u201d Podufalski added.<\/p>\n

But the brief showers didn\u2019t stop families around the community from bringing their children down for a day filled with equipment, trucks and machinery, as well as dishes presented at each vehicle or machine that contained candy.<\/p>\n

Members of the church were also set up at the event to talk about their programs to include Journey Kids, a program for grades kindergarten through fifth held each Sunday at the church at 9:45 a.m. Visit www.ambccandor.com<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n

Heading down Route 96 and back towards Owego, Iron Kettle Farm was standing room only with their decorative display of pumpkins and their wide range of activities for children, to include a dig pit.<\/p>\n

While traveling down Route 96, residents took advantage of the added traffic and held yard sales of their own.<\/p>\n

Further down the road at Bostwick Auctions, vendors were set up and were selling their wares. <\/p>\n

Power and Paddle, Home Central, and other local businesses along this stretch of road were participating as well, with specials taking place, as well as ongoing at their Route 96 locations.<\/p>\n
