Animal Adventure Park has recently announced that April the Giraffe is pregnant once again!<\/p>\n
Jordan Patch, owner of Animal Adventure Park, announced April\u2019s big news Wednesday morning on The Today Show.<\/p>\n
April\u2019s fans have been anxiously awaiting this update. In June, after 30 days of sample collection, the giraffe\u2019s caretakers announced that they had sent April\u2019s fecal specimens to a laboratory for progesterone testing. The analysis confirmed the suspicions of the giraffe\u2019s handlers – April is already months into her pregnancy and expecting her fifth calf in early Spring 2019.<\/p>\n
April ignited a viral Internet sensation last winter, as the heavily pregnant giraffe captivated audiences around the world during the final weeks of her pregnancy. On April 15, 2017, more than a million viewers tuned in to Animal Adventure Park\u2019s live Giraffe Cam to watch April give birth to a healthy, male calf named Tajiri.<\/p>\n
Patch is elated to share with the world that April is pregnant again, and stated that it is exciting for the park, but carries much more value for giraffe as a species.<\/p>\n
\u201cGiraffes are currently listed as \u2018vulnerable to extinction\u2019 by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature. At Animal Adventure Park, our top priority is preserving these beautiful, majestic creatures and increasing awareness of the threat they are facing,\u201d Patch said.<\/p>\n
Patch added, \u201cApril\u2019s prior pregnancy facilitated an immeasurable amount of education and appreciation for giraffes. We\u2019re very proud of our captive management and propagation program and eager to continue doing all we can to help bring this species awareness and tangible results towards conservation.\u201d<\/p>\n
