{"id":64803,"date":"2018-04-21T08:04:54","date_gmt":"2018-04-21T12:04:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.owegopennysaver.com\/PS\/?p=64803"},"modified":"2018-04-21T08:04:54","modified_gmt":"2018-04-21T12:04:54","slug":"broome-county-announces-25000-in-mini-grant-funding-for-opioid-overdose-prevention-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.owegopennysaver.com\/PS\/2018\/04\/21\/broome-county-announces-25000-in-mini-grant-funding-for-opioid-overdose-prevention-efforts\/","title":{"rendered":"Broome County announces $25,000 in mini-grant funding for opioid overdose prevention efforts\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rebecca Kaufman, director of Public Health; Marissa Lamphere, opioid overdose prevention coordinator; and County Executive Jason Garnar recently announced $25,000 in funding for community agencies to conduct opioid overdose awareness activities.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The funds will be available to non-profit organizations, community agencies, municipalities and schools to develop, enhance or establish opioid awareness related activities in Broome County.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFighting this public health epidemic takes a multi-faceted approach, and we are excited to offer our community partners the opportunity to explore new ways of saving lives and reducing the stigma associated with substance use disorders,\u201d stated Rebecca Kaufman, director of Public Health.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are looking for proposals to tackle this complex public health subject area, which impacts all sectors and people in our community,\u201d added Marissa Lamphere, opioid overdose prevention coordinator.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The grant applications can be found at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bidnetdirect.com\/new-york\/broome-county\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.bidnetdirect.com\/new-york\/broome-county<\/a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Successful applicants will be awarded a contract until Dec. 31, 2018; contingent upon successful program performance. Projects will be funded depending on the scope of the projects and may range in award amounts up to $25,000.<\/p>\n<p>They encourage all who are eligible to apply.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday we will partner for a better tomorrow to save more lives in Broome County,\u201d said Jason Garnar, Broome County executive, adding, \u201cThese grass roots efforts will be another step in building the foundation of prevention, education, treatment and recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rebecca Kaufman, director of Public Health;
