Tioga County Public Health conducted a tabletop drill March 20 to practice their vaccine administering capabilities. If there were a disease outbreak, or Public Health emergency, they would set up point of dispensing (POD) locations to give residents medicine to prevent them from getting sick.<\/p>\n

Preparedness Coordinator Emily Warfle facilitated the exercise, providing different scenarios that the staff had to react to and demonstrate how they would handle the situation based on their role.<\/p>\n

She stated, \u201cPracticing our disaster response procedures allows us to identify the gaps in our plans. Then we are able to make changes before disaster strikes to ensure our county will be as resilient as possible\u201d.<\/p>\n

Staff followed FEMA\u2019s National Incident Management System guidelines, including the incident command system. This ensures that if other counties came in for mutual aid, all employees would be using common terminology and a similar systematic approach.<\/p>\n

Tioga County Public Health will be conducting a full-scale disease outbreak exercise April 26, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Valley United Presbyterian Church in Waverly, N.Y. County residents are encouraged to attend and participate.<\/p>\n
