These peer- or professionally-led groups are for individuals, caregivers and others dealing with Alzheimer\u2019s disease or a related form of dementia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Caregiver support groups promote an open forum of sharing and discussion among people facing many of the same issues. The group\u2019s power rests within its members\u2019 ability to show compassion, develop strategies and empower its members to provide the highest quality care possible.<\/p>\n<p>Early-stage support groups provide peer-to-peer conversation and support for individuals specifically diagnosed in the disease\u2019s early stages. Groups are open to the individual with the disease and the caregiver, and advanced screening is recommended prior to attending by calling the number listed with the support group.<\/p>\n<p>All support groups are free of charge to attend and facilitated by trained individuals. For more information, call 1-800-272-3900 or email to <a href=\"mailto:cny-programs@alz.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cny-programs@alz.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In Broome County, an early-stage support group meets at the Vestal United Methodist Church, located at 328 Main St. in Vestal, at 1 p.m. on Feb. 9 and March 9.<\/p>\n<p>Also in Broome County, a caregiver support group meets at the Vestal Public Library, located at 320 Vestal Parkway East in Vestal, at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 and March 6. There is also a group meeting in Endicott at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish House located at 719 W. Main St. This meeting will take place at 10 a.m. on Feb. 14 and March 21.
