(NYSE: AGR),&nbsp;a diversified energy and utility company,&nbsp;have been monitoring weather forecasts and are prepared for a storm forecast to bring mixed precipitation and significant snowfall to areas of New York this afternoon and into the overnight hours.<\/p>\n<p>NYSEG and RG&amp;E\u2019s storm readiness teams have&nbsp;been preparing and planning for the impacts of the storm,&nbsp;and the company is pre-positioning personnel and equipment to ensure that adequate resources are ready to respond. Current forecasts call for a mix of weather across the state today through&nbsp;<span data-term=\"goog_884528719\">Saturday<\/span>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NYSEG and RG&amp;E offer customers the following tips to prepare for the storm and stay safe.<\/p>\n<p>Before a storm strikes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Enroll in the free Outage Alerts service, which provides the latest information about power outages by text message, email, or voice message.<\/li>\n<li>Keep battery-operated flashlights and radios on hand, along with supplies of drinking water and non-perishable foods.<\/li>\n<li>Make sure that smart phones, tablets, and other mobile devices are fully charged.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>During a power interruption:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Contact neighbors to see if their power is off. A loss of power may be the result of a blown fuse or a tripped circuit breaker.<\/li>\n<li>To report a power interruption, contact NYSEG at&nbsp;<a href=\"tel:(800)%20572-1131\">1.800.572.1131<\/a>or RG&amp;E at&nbsp;<a href=\"tel:(800)%20743-1701\">1.800.743.1701<\/a>.&nbsp;Our telephone systems let callers report the problem, help our crews respond quickly and efficiently, and provide customers with power interruption updates. Because many people may be trying to reach us during a power interruption, phone lines may be busy. Most food will last 24 hours or longer if you minimize the opening of refrigerator and freezer doors.<\/li>\n<li>Turn off or unplug major appliances to avoid overloading circuits when power is restored.<\/li>\n<li>During heavy snows, ensure chimneys and flues are not blocked by snowfall.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>For customers that plan to install or already have generators:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hire a licensed electrician to install permanent generators and transfer switches.<\/li>\n<li>Properly ground all portable generators.<\/li>\n<li>Carefully read and observe all instructions in your generator\u2019s operating manual.<\/li>\n<li>Never run a generator indoors, or even in an open garage.<\/li>\n<li>If your carbon monoxide detector goes off \u2013 get out of the building immediately and call 911.<\/li>\n<li>Do not store fuel indoors or try to refuel a generator while it\u2019s running.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>After power is restored:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Turn on appliances and sensitive electronic equipment one at a time to avoid overloading circuits.<\/li>\n<li>If a basement or home was flooded, have an electrician check the home before contacting NYSEG and RG&amp;E to have services turned on.<\/li>\n<li>Replenish any emergency supplies used during the storm.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The company urges customers to use caution if they see downed lines.<\/p>\n<p>NYSEG and RG&amp;E also remind drivers to use caution when approaching utility crews.
