Hose Racing in the Flats.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Owego Hose Team, Inc. and Croton Hose Co. #3, affectionately known as the \u201cFlat Rats,\u201d held a block party today on Talcott Street in honor of the late #3\u2019s and hose team member Christopher M. Franz.  <\/p>\n

The day kicked off with a memorial bike ride leaving the Franz house from 29 George St. at 9:30 a.m. to St. Patrick\u2019s Church on Main Street where Chris<\/p>\n

worked for 17 years, never missing a day on the job.  <\/p>\n

Chicken BBQ dinners included \u201cCornell Chicken\u201d halves, the Duke\u2019s baked beans, Hinerwadel\u2019s salt potatoes, and Roma roll. Proceeds benefit the Baker Fireman\u2019s Fountain Restoration.  <\/p>\n

Chris Franz’s mom, Rose, was presented with a plaque, and is given a kiss by her son, Michael Franz.<\/p><\/div>\n

A hose race where firefighters test their skills took place at 12:30 p.m. The Flat Rats Station #3 was also open at 11 a.m. for visitors to take in the company\u2019s 173 year history through pictures, memorabilia and trophies. <\/p>\n

Ice Cream Works, owned and operated by Chris\u2019s brother Mike and wife Diane Franz, provided free ice cream. As Chris was a music connoisseur, in tribute, DJ Tommy D of Flat Rat Adventures was spinning his favorite tunes throughout the day. <\/p>\n

An after party at the Rainbow Trail on North Avenue will conclude the events this afternoon and evening. We will have a full story on Sunday.<\/p>\n
