Cuomo today warned New Yorkers to take precautions as severe weather moves across Upstate New York and continues traveling east. A number of showers and thunderstorms are expected across the entire state, some of which have the potential to become severe and produce heavy rainfall, damaging winds and flash flooding. As a precaution, the Governor has directed the State Emergency Operations Center to enter into its enhanced monitoring mode.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_1146876900524913066Normal m_1146876900524913066DocDefaults\"><span class=\"m_1146876900524913066DefaultParagraphFont\">&#8220;With each new storm, Mother Nature continues to prove just how unpredictable she can be, which makes preparedness all the more critical,&#8221;&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"m_1146876900524913066DefaultParagraphFont\">Governor Cuomo said<\/span><span class=\"m_1146876900524913066DefaultParagraphFont\">. &#8220;As this severe weather moves across Upstate, I urge all&nbsp;New Yorkers to stay informed, closely follow local forecasts and&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"m_1146876900524913066DefaultParagraphFont\">have a plan in place to protect yourselves and your families.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_1146876900524913066Normal m_1146876900524913066DocDefaults\"><span class=\"m_1146876900524913066DefaultParagraphFont\">The most severe weather is expected between&nbsp;<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1301395613\"><span class=\"aQJ\">2 p.m. to 11 p.m.<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;today, August 22 as storms travel west to east ahead of an approaching cold front. In Western New York, the National Weather Service has already issued a wind advisory for Erie, Genesee, Niagara, and Orleans Counties that will remain in effect until&nbsp;<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1301395614\"><span class=\"aQJ\">8 p.m.<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1301395615\"><span class=\"aQJ\">tonight<\/span><\/span>. Damaging winds are expected to produce gusts up to 43<\/span><span class=\"m_1146876900524913066DefaultParagraphFont\">&nbsp;mph and could down trees and power lines.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"m_1146876900524913066Normal m_1146876900524913066DocDefaults\"><span class=\"m_1146876900524913066DefaultParagraphFont\">The National Weather Service has also issued a Lakeshore Flood Warning that will go into effect today at&nbsp;<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1301395616\"><span class=\"aQJ\">5 p.m.<\/span><\/span>&nbsp;for Wayne, Cayuga, Oswego and Jefferson Counties as strong southwest winds develop over Lake Ontario late this afternoon.
