On Tuesday, May 2, the Tioga County Sheriff\u2019s Office, in conjunction with the Waverly Police Department, delivered approximately 350 pounds of unused and unwanted prescription and non-prescription medications to an incinerator facility in Syracuse for destruction. <\/p>\n
The total amount destroyed included items collected from medication drop boxes at the Tioga County Sheriff\u2019s Office and Waverly Police Department, as well as, drug take back events held by the above mentioned agencies since October 2016. <\/p>\n
The destruction of these unused and unwanted medications was made possible by working closely with the Drug Enforcement Administration\u2019s Syracuse Office. Tioga County is a part of the DEA\u2019s Central New York region. <\/p>\n
The DEA estimated a total of just under 11 tons of medications were destroyed, which were collected from the DEA\u2019s Central and Capital regions. <\/p>\n
