Champion BMX, a family run track located at 227 Old Narrows Rd. in Nichols, started their second full season in April. A race will be held on Mother’s Day, May 14, with registration starting at 1 p.m. Owners and coaches, Rick and Margaret Decker, invite the community to come out to watch the races or try the sport for the first time. Champion BMX, a family run track located at 227 Old Narrows Rd. in Nichols, N.Y., started their second full season in April after a successful inaugural season last year. The season runs from April through October, and concludes with a special Veteran\u2019s Day race in November.<\/p>\n

Track operator, Rick Decker and Track President, Margaret Decker, encourage riders of all ages and skill levels to try BMX riding and welcomes spectators to visit the complex on race days. The next race is scheduled on Mother\u2019s Day, May 14, and features a picnic at noon with race registration starting at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n

Sanctioned by USABMX, Champion BMX is one of hundreds of BMX tracks located around the country, and which also extends competitive scholarships to riders. The sport is described by usabmx.com as, \u201cA rush of adrenaline! With big jumps, steep backsides, deep turns and downhill sections, you really need to experience it.\u201d<\/p>\n

BMX is a family sport for the Decker\u2019s. Both Rick and Margaret race, as do their children, sons Deemer, Garrison and Jerrick, and daughter, Aliceon. The Decker\u2019s, both certified coaches for the sport, also manage a family BMX team called Ridin\u2019 RevolutionS.   <\/p>\n

New riders, both boys and girls, are welcome to try out the sport, even now after the season has already begun. Interested riders will need a bike and helmet, along with long sleeves and pants. The Decker\u2019s do loan out bikes and helmets for those who want to try it out first, and practices are held Monday evenings starting at 6 p.m. at the track.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are glad to meet with riders and parents and help anyone who wants to try it,\u201d Margaret said. The Decker\u2019s are happy to give an introduction about the sport, including bike operation and necessary gear, as well as share other information and answer questions.  <\/p>\n

And anyone means anyone who wants to try it, to include mothers and fathers, siblings, and other family members, too. Margaret commented, \u201cWe want to bring the sport of BMX not only to new riders, but families, too.\u201d <\/p>\n

An exciting event in store at the track is the BMX Olympic Day on June 29, a free entry race that will include food, fun and activities. A state qualifier race is scheduled on July 23, which will bring riders and families to the track from all over New York State. Champion BMX will also be participating in the Strawberry Festival Parade this year on June 17.<\/p>\n

The Decker\u2019s were pleased to hear positive feedback from riders during last year\u2019s season. \u201cPeople really like the old-school type dirt track,\u201d Margaret said.<\/p>\n
