Plenty of water was the strategy for contestant Nick Conti at the Burger Eating Contest held on Feb. 16 at Bill’s Restaurant in Owego.<\/p><\/div>\n

Seven contestants from the Owego area vied for two awards at a Burger Eating Contest held on Feb. 16 at Bill\u2019s Restaurant, located at 53 South Depot St. in Owego.<\/p>\n

Contestants had one hour to consume as many burgers as possible to win the \u201cMost Burgers Eaten\u201d trophy, and another trophy was set aside for the contestant who received the most donations from a \u201cper burger\u201d pledge or a flat donation. All money raised benefits Tioga County Rural Ministry (TCRM).<\/p>\n

Contestants included Chris Schmidt from WEBO, Laura Spencer Eberly of Riverow Bookshop, Matt Howe from D.O.T. highway maintenance, Ray Barrett of Owego VFW Post 1371, Raleigh LeDuc and Preston Wright of the Owego Kitchen, and Nick Conti, the Pizza Challenge Winner.<\/p>\n

Live music entertainment by Daphne Braden, raffles, and 50\/50 drawings were also part of the event, with proceeds going to TCRM.<\/p>\n

A large crowd cheered contestants on, including Sister Mary O\u2019Brien of the TCRM. Guests filled both the dining and bar areas of the restaurant.  <\/p>\n

Braden\u2019s first song, \u201cStuck in the Middle With You,\u201d was a good lead-in for the burger-eaters as the infamous lyrics by<\/p>\n

Stealers Wheel, \u201cClowns to the left of me, Jokers to the Right,\u201d with Braden changing up the words clowns and jokers to \u201cburgers\u201d, set the mood for the lively contest.<\/p>\n

Plenty of water was on hand for contestants, along with condiments, and whatever it took to get the burgers down, including one contestant who had a side of bacon. <\/p>\n

Preston Wright of the Owego Kitchen went on to win the \u201cMost Burgers Eaten\u201d contest, consuming a total of eight burgers in one hour.   <\/p>\n
