Zion Lutheran School, located at 3917 Waverly Rd. in Owego, N.Y., celebrated \u201cNational Lutheran Schools Week\u201d January 23-27, along with nearly 2,300 schools nationwide. Students in grades Pre-K through sixth grade, along with teachers and staff, participated in a different event each day.<\/p>\n

The Discovery Center of Binghamton brought their \u201cStar Lab\u201d to the school on Monday, Grandparent\u2019s Day on Wednesday featured a poetry reading and craft time, and on Thursday\u2019s pajama day, students enjoyed a slumber party and movie. Finishing up the week, students took a field trip on Friday to Tioga County Rural Ministries where they participated in service time by helping stock the organization\u2019s food pantry.<\/p>\n

helped organize the National Lutheran Schools Week events and explained that since Tuesday was a snow day, students won\u2019t miss out on the Binghamton Zoo\u2019s visit, which was planned that day.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have rescheduled the zoomobile to visit the school next month,\u201d Roseboom said.<\/p>\n

At Grandparent\u2019s Day, in addition to card making and crafting, students recited poems and sang songs together in the chapel. The Kindergarten and first grade class recited, \u201cI\u2019m Being Swallowed by a Boa Constrictor,\u201d a fun poem by fan-favorite, Shel Silverstein.<\/p>\n

Poems recited by fourth-grade student, Laura Ludwig, and third-grade student, Conor Kotski were selected by teacher-judges, and both students are invited to participate in an area poetry recitation to be held in April, which will also include students from Broome County.  <\/p>\n

At Grandparent\u2019s Day, Laura recited the amusing poem, \u201cSomeone\u2019s Toes Are In My Nose\u201d by Bruce Lansky and Conor shared the Williams Carlos Williams\u2019 classic, \u201cIt Is Just to Say.\u201d      <\/p>\n

Zion Lutheran School, established in 1981, provides faith-based education and is open to children of both parishioners and the community, with bussing available from four surrounding districts. It is the only preschool through sixth grade Lutheran school in the Southern Tier and offers a full curriculum with individual attention.  <\/p>\n
