A 2015 Waverly high school graduate and SUNY-Broome student, Emiley Myers, has reached a noteworthy milestone in her soccer career. Myers, along with her SUNY-Broome women\u2019s soccer team, claimed the NJCAA Division III national championship on Nov. 13 at Ocean County College in Toms River, N.J.<\/p>\n

On their journey toward the championship crown, the Lady Hornets won all three games by shutout, including the final 3-0 victory over Erie Community College. <\/p>\n

In the semifinal game versus Brookhaven College, it was Myers\u2019 lone goal scored two minutes into play that sustained a 1-0 win for the Lady Hornets.<\/p>\n

The 2016 championship is the third National Junior College Athletic Association title for the Lady Hornets. The team finished up their spectacular near-perfect season this year with a 21-1 record. <\/p>\n

For Myers, dedicated focus and determination, along with a sincere passion and love for the game of soccer has paid off. Being a member of a championship team is in itself significant, and another incredible chapter to add to a soccer story that started about 15 years ago.  <\/p>\n

\u201cI started playing soccer at the age of four,\u201d Myers shared, and added, \u201cIt\u2019s been nearly a 24-7, 365 day schedule ever since.\u201d   <\/p>\n

Now age 19, Myers explained that she was introduced and encouraged to play soccer by her father, Brian Myers, who has 15-plus years of soccer coaching experience to his credit. <\/p>\n

A key contributor to the Waverly High School soccer team, Myers has also played numerous seasons at the Greater Binghamton Sports Complex for club teams. That combined experience elevated her game, and in turn put her in the spotlight at SUNY-Broome.  <\/p>\n

SUNY Broome women\u2019s soccer head coach, Bill Rich, commented, \u201cEmiley Myers was a critical part of our success. She was a great distributor of the ball as a central attacking midfielder.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rich continued, \u201cEmiley is one of the most skilled, composed midfielders in the league, and a key component to initiating offensive opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Myers finished the Lady Hornets season with a phenomenal 14 goals and 13 assists. She was an All-Conference player, All-Region player and received a nomination as an All-American.<\/p>\n

What\u2019s next up for Myers is fulfilling a long-term goal of attending medical school. Two years of undergraduate studies at USF College of Medicine in Tampa, Fla., followed by four years of medical school will soon fill her calendar.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy interest is in oncology,\u201d Myers shared, with a desire to possibly pursue pediatric oncology.<\/p>\n

Factored into her studies at Tampa is time to play soccer, too, at least for the first two years. The three-time MVP and three-time All-State at Waverly High School, along with her multiple SUNY-Broome achievements, is excited for the chance to play at another level.  <\/p>\n

It\u2019s that 24-7, 365 day routine and personal drive. Chances are the world of medicine will also benefit from her positive attitude and energy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
