Paced by a three-goal outburst from Jacob Banks, the Hiawatha Hammerheads boys\u2019 Under-11 soccer team defeated the GPS New York Knights from Buffalo at Hickories Park in Owego on Sunday, May 15.\u00a0Forward Kyle Riegel and midfielder Jack Rollison added the other Hammerheads goals to bring the final score to 5 to 0.\u00a0 Coming into Sunday\u2019s match, GPS was the top Under-11 boys team in the State as ranked by gotsoccer.com.<\/p>\n

Midfielder Jace Riegel and striker Jacob Banks were awarded the \u201cshark hats” by the Hammerheads coaches for their performances in this contest.<\/p>\n

Sunday\u2019s victory brings the Hammerheads record on the 2016 season to 3-0-0 and keeps the Hiawatha team at the top of the Thruway League Under-11 First Division standings.\u00a0Thruway League is the premier soccer league in central and western New York State and serves as the qualifying league for the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championship Series.<\/p>\n

The next outing for Hiawatha Hammerheads will be a home contest versus the Empire Academy of Rochester on Sunday, May 22.\u00a0That match will kick off at 3 p.m. at Ward\u2019s Field on Route 96B in Candor.<\/p>\n

Busy Weekend For Under-10 Hiawatha Teams<\/b><\/p>\n

The Under-10 Hiawatha Hawks girls\u2019 team hosted a match this past weekend versus Oneonta Magic and the Under-10 Hiawatha Thunder boys\u2019 team hosted teams from Greater Binghamton Select, Maine-Endwell Spartans and Newark Valley in Broome County Soccer League play.\u00a0No scores or standings are kept for Under-10 BCSA teams.\u00a0The players, however, competed with skill and determination in all of their matches.<\/p>\n

The Hiawatha Hawks are coached by Kari Ryder-Morton and Lauran Murphy, and the Hiawatha Magic are coached by Kwasi VanScoy and Joe Higgins.<\/p>\n

Hiawatha Lions Open Broome County Soccer League Season With A Win<\/b><\/p>\n

In their first match of the 2016 spring season, the Under-16 Hiawatha Lions defeated the Cortland County Select team 3 to 1 on Saturday, May 14.\u00a0A balanced effort by the Lions team led to goals scored by Christian Sage, Isaiah Bishop and Kobe Bogart.<\/p>\n

Hiawatha Lions record in Broome County Soccer Association play stands at 1-0-0.<\/p>\n

Hiawatha Under-19 Team \u201cStings\u201d Delaware County\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

The Hiawatha Stingers opened their 2016 Broome County Soccer Association season with a resounding win over Delaware County Dragons up in Delhi on Sunday, May 15.\u00a0Despite the windy and snowy conditions, the Under-19 Stingers found the back of the net very effectively, paced by multiple goal scorers Adam Nichols, Simon Davis and Kyle Pryor.<\/p>\n
